Copper is a precious metal.

The metal is in high demand because it can be used for a variety of purposes, but because less and less copper is being produced, the metal is not as abundant as it used to be.

So copper itself is an expensive metal, and so is anything made from it.

The copper casting process involves pouring molten metal (usually reworked from scrap into raw material) into a mold containing a cavity of the desired shape and allowing it to solidify.

Common foundry metals are alloys of aluminum, magnesium, and copper.

Other materials including tin, zinc, lead alloys, and iron and steel were also cast in graphite molds.
